Power supply requirements: arc welding needs a power supply to form an electric arc between the electrode and the welding machine for welding to take place at the point it is required. DC and AC are the types of power supplies used in welding. AC is the popular power supply between them because its cost-efficient, easy to use but has low thermal efficiency. It works perfectly for the iron group of metal welding but it is not suggested for precision welding especially non-ferrous metals and alloys. Whereas, DC power supply ensures steady voltage for a welding process.
Metal types: TIG welders work well with all metals and alloys other than iron metals. Whereas, MIG welding works well with stainless steel, aluminum alloys, and steel. Stick welders work on stainless steel, cast iron, and steel.
The complexity of the machine: if the welding is simple or you are a beginner go with a basic machine like a small MIG welder would be sufficient. If the work is complex and requires more power or you are advanced, you may go for a high-tech TIG welder.
Check Quality: before purchasing any welding machine check the quality of the product. Make sure that the quality of the product is not compromised. Go through some reviews from old customers and do your product research before making the purchase. Type of welding material: short arc welding should be used on thin materials preferably in a flat position and for thick materials go with spray arc welding in a flat position.
Weld time requirements: the duty cycle of a welding machine is the amount of time you can weld without worrying about overheating or burning the power source. So, keeping that in mind purchase a welding machine that fulfills your time requirement.
