A public sector undertaking of the government of India. The company was incorporated as a wholly government owned corporation on 18th January 1965 with the objective of setting up cement units in public sector to help achieve self-sufficiency in cement production in the country.
It is based in New Delhi. Manufactures various types of cements like PPC (Portland Pozzolana Cement), PSC (Portland Slag Cement), Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) of varying grades.
Currently, it has three profit making operating units and various region centers spread over different Indian states and union territories, with a total annual installed capacity of 38.48 lakh tonne.
2. UltraTech Cement
An Indian cement company based in Mumbai. Founded in 1983, it is subsidiary of Indian multinational conglomerate, Aditya Birla Group. It is the largest manufacturer of grey cement, ready mix concrete (RMC) and white cement in India with an installed capacity of 116.75 million tonnes per annum, and is the only company in the world to have a capacity of over 100 million tonnes in a single country.
It consists of 23 integrated plants, 1 clinkerisation plant, 26 grinding units and 7 bulk terminals. Its operation span across India, UAE, Bahrain and Sri Lanka.
With 100+ Ready Mix Concrete plants in 39 cities, UltraTech is the largest manufacturer of concrete in India.
3. Ambuja Cement
Major Indian cement producing company. The group markets cement and clinker for both domestic and export markets. In 2006, the company entered into a strategic partnership with Holcim, the second largest cement manufacturer in the world. It holds 61.62% of the shares in Ambuja cement.
4. Shree Cement
Indian cement manufacturer, founded in Beawar, Rajasthan, in 1979. Now headquartered in Kolkata, it is one of the biggest cement makers in Northern India.
Shree cement ranked 4th in 2017 Responsible Business Rankings developed by IIM Udaipur. Plants are located in Beawar, Ras, Khushkhera, Jobner and Suratgarh in Rajasthan, Lakshar in Uttarakhand, Panipat in Haryana, Bulandshahar in UP, Raipur in Chhattisgarh and Aurangabad in Bihar. Shree cement was second largest company in India in 2018.
